Ireland’s leading beat group of the 60s, The Grannies Intentions are to reunite to perform Johnny Duhan’s song cycle To The Light, which was inspired by the band’s quixotic years on the road tilting for fame and the girl. This reincarnation of the group will feature the original Limerick lineup of Cha Haran, Johnny Hockedy, Jack Costelloe, Guido DiVito and Johnny Duhan.
‘To The Light’ was released by Duhan in 2009. It is a collection of seventeen tracks, mainly love songs – many of them covered by the likes of Mary Black, Dolores Keane, Mary Coughlan, Eleanor Shanley, Tommy Fleming and the Dubliners – drawing on the rhythms and tones of the music that the band fueled their ambition on. After rousing Dublinin the mid 60′s with their soul touch, Granny’s Intentions were one of the first Irish bands to move to London, where they were signed to the prestigious Deram record label and played residencies in leading clubs like the Marquee and the Speakeasy during the bloom years of flowerpower. Many of Ireland’s finest and brightest musicians passed through Granny’s ranks during their heady years on the road, including the legendary Gary Moore.
The Grannies Intentions will play Belltable Arts Center on October 28 and 29. Tickets now on sale
